Bhikkhuni begins fast over failed ‘good governance’

A Bhikkhuni (Buddhist nun) launched a fast in Kandy today in protest over the failure by the ‘good governance’ Government to fulfill its promises.

The Bhikkhuni, who has refused to consume any food or water, said that she will continue the fast until the Government resigns.

She said that the Government of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had made several promises to the people.

However she says the Government has failed to fulfill the promises so it has no right to remain in power.

The Bhikkhuni also alleged that the Government is on the verge of destroying the country through a new Constitution.

She claimed the if the new Constitution is approved the Sinhalese community in the country will not have anything left.

The Bhikkhuni also accused the Government of protecting the very people it accused of being corrupt. (Colombo Gazette)
