Sri Lanka passport ranked 93 in the world

The Sri Lanka passport has been ranked 93 in the world, behind countries like Bangladesh, Sudan, Nepal and Congo.

Germany take first place with a visa-free score of 157, closely followed by Singapore and Sweden which were both ranked second with a visa-free score of 156.

The Passport Index devised by global financial advisory firm Arton Capital looks at three factors: The country’s visa-free score – which includes visa-free and visa on arrival; the visa-free portion of their score versus visa on arrival; and the United Nations Development Programme Human Development Index is used as a tie breaker.

A total of 199 passports, consisting of the 193 United Nations member countries and six territories – Taiwan, Macau (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, Palestinian Territory and the Vatican – are considered for the index. Territories annexed to other countries, such as Norfolk Island, the French Polynesia and British Virgin Islands who do not issue their own passports are not considered as destinations, the index said. 1. What a score, all the previous govt are to be blamed, the politico care a damn about it because they travel on Diplo-holic passport. They do not care about the average citizen who are being treated like scum when arrived at the immigration and border controls at different countries. We had visa free travel to Hong Kong this moron Uneducated and unkooth Paraiah “Vimal’ action lead to the visa travel. Can some address this bloody pathetic situation.

    • The Minister in charge of this Dept. (Hon. Navin) does not appear to understand anything in the I/E Dept. of his! This Dept. is a den of thieves – bribery is rampant. Overseas passport application, duly accepted by the
Consular Offices with the set parameters, are held back
by Officials in the Dept. at random, until a personal
approach is made. With a Bribe they are approved,
despite their ealier claims of shortfalls – which were none. Double standards are practiced. A 10 year is
given a 3 yr. valid Passport, as in keeping with Inter-
national practices, however in the case of even a one week old child Overseas is given the 10 year Passport! Cant the Minister see for himself this discrepancy? Cit.Div. wants all overseas born passport applicants to return to the Dept. in Colombo for a passport should they apply for one at the age of 18+! Nowhere in the world this happens. This is for Bribes only, finding some fault somewhere! They have NOT disclosed this requirement in their website – because it is a hidden agenda under GG. (Gota too wanted to interview people for Dual Citizenship – remember?)

    • Your right Mr Silver

it has always been donkeys like this that has put us who are citizens of Sri Lanka into situations where we have to face to music because of Paraiah’s like this

      • What is the point of complaining here. Does anybody have the email address of the minister in charge? Time to write a lengthy email explaining foreign policy to our diplomats!

  2. I think it’s about time the citizens of Sri Lanka organised and put pressure on the government to deal with this. Our ministers and diplomats are busy getting visa free access for their official and diplomatic passports. Pathetic, these officials should be embarrassed!
