JVP meets SLMC and discusses SAITM medical degrees

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today had discussions with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) on the medical degrees offered by the SAITM university.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that SAITM medical degrees cannot be accepted in Sri Lanka.

He said that students obtaining degrees from SAITM cannot be registered by the SLMC as doctors.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the JVP requested the SLMC to ensure SAITM students are not registered as doctors owing to outside pressure.

He said that allowing SAITM to operate goes against the free education policy of the Government. (Colombo Gazette)

Accomplice of leading drug convict arrested

An accomplice of a leading drug convict has been arrested by a special?team of the Criminal Investigations Department. CID officers arrested the suspect who had helped drug convict ?Sunil Shantha? to escape from the Welikada remand prison. He was arrested in Lunugamwehera, the Police said.
