SLFP asserts Sirisena must be nominee for next President

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today asserted that President Maithripala Sirisena is suitable to contest the next Presidential election.

SLFP member Chandima Weerakkody, speaking in Galle, said that the next Presidential election will be in 2021.

He said that?President Maithripala Sirisena, as head of the SLFP is the most suitable person to contest the next?Presidential election.

“As the SLFP there is no doubt our candidate at the next Presidential election must be?Maithripala Sirisena,” he said.

There have been reports that the SLFP may nominate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa or former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the next President. (Colombo Gazette)
