Malaysia says it won’t follow Sri Lanka and lease land to China

Malaysian Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani said Malaysia will not end up like Sri Lanka, which was forced to lease its properties over its indebtedness to China, malaysiakini.com reported.

“That is Sri Lanka, this is Malaysia,” Johari said when met at an event in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was responding to prominent socio-economic activist and Bantah TPPA deputy chairperson Azlan Awang, who was quoted by news portal Free Malaysia Today as warning the government of the risks of putting Malaysia in the same trouble that Sri Lanka was over its indebtedness to China. 1. Malaysia had patriotic leaders like Mahatir who raised the country to developed status while treating the ethnic minorities such as Chinese, Tamils in a fair manner. But SL had Sinhala Buddhist leaders who were selfish and were not devoted in developing the motherland
