President asserts coat, tie not a must for state officials

President Maithripala Sirisean today asserted that Government officials will not be required to wear a coat and tie for events, unless it is really required.

The President said that the local environment must be taken into consideration when dressing for state events.

He noted that in other South Asian counties, Government officials dress according to their culture and to suit the environment.

The President said that Government officials wear a coat and tie as a result of a circular issued by a former President.

However, he says, as the current President he has decide to recall that circular. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. To Pial,
Tie and coat seem to mean a lot to you, aren’t they? It is a well known thing that slaves of the British value it a lot, and the former president also was not in very much favour of the British, was he?
