Lottery ticket sales agents suspend strike after talks

Lottery ticket sales agents have decided to temporarily suspend a strike after President Maithripala Sirisena assured them a solution to their concerns by Monday.

The Government on January 01 increased the price of a lottery ticket by Rs.10. The move however drew severe criticism from both the lottery ticket sellers and the general public.

Chairman of the All Island Lottery sales Agents Pathmasiri Munigoda said that the strike against the price increase was suspended after talks held with the President today.

Munigoda said that the President had assured them he will give them a solution on Monday. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Increase of Lottery ticket prices by 50% is another indirect tax. Government is hitting the poor with knock out punches while looking after the super rich.
