CB Governor comes under fire from Finance Minister

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake today slammed Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy for saying that Sri Lanka’s economy is not in the “ICU” but in “hospital.”

The Minister said he was surprised that Coomaraswamy made such a statement.

Karunanayake said that when the current Government took office Sri Lanka’s economy was in the ICU and Coomaraswamy was then an “attendant.”

He said the Central Bank is there to take the economic policies of the Government forward. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. This government is having lot of issues over bureaucrats. Why is this position? Are they trying to be above the law or law themselves. CBSL does not come within the purview of the Finance Minister. Ravi should tackle with this issue Ranil, who is the Minister for the subject. Do Ravi wishes to have a Governor like Nivard or Arjun, Beware whatever a Minister says is flashed on the media due to media freedom unlike Mahinda’s days. People who brought this government without expecting anything except good governance are in a quandary.Further there is a powerful opposition backed by powerful media. So Government should handle matters delicately, otherwise they are taking their own destruction path. Government should have only one voice. No SL government has lost its admirers ,or well wishers so soon. Primary thanks goes to Mahendran and his backers. Can Ranil do a renaissance.
