Investigation over brutal Police torture of Millaniya students

An investigation has been launched over the alleged brutal Police torture of students of a school in Millaniya for stealing money from the bag of a school teacher. Education Minister Susil Premjayantha told Parliament today that the Education Ministry, and the National Child Protection Authority were investigating the incident. President holds talks with IMF Managing Director

President Ranil Wickremesinghe had talks with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the COP27 conference in Egypt. CWC backs calls for Vedda community to enter Parliament

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) has backed calls for the Vedda community to enter Parliament. CWC Secretary General Jeevan Thondaman told Parliament today that the Vedda community are an endangered community. “They are the original people of this land,” he noted. Thondaman said that while the Vedda community should be given representation in Parliament, there should also be a Ministry which ensures their welfare and protection. (Colombo Gazette)
