Opposition seeks clarity on Hambantota deal through court

The joint opposition says it is seeking clarity on the Hambantota port deal through a court ruling.

Joint opposition parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara told reporters today that a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the sale of the Hambantota port.

He said that no one seems to know what the agreement on the Hambantota port is between the Government and China.

Nanayakkara claimed that even some cabinet Ministers are clueless about the deal.

He said that the opposition hopes the case will be heard soon and that during the case the opposition will be able to express its concerns on the deal.

The Government is to sign a 99 year lease agreement with a Chinese company to operate the Hambantota port in order to recover the huge losses suffered by the port. (Colombo Gazette)
