North Western PC also votes against Special Provisions Bill

The North Western?Provincial Council today voted against the?Development (Special Provisions) draft Bill.

The Bill was defeated by a majority of 20 votes with 31 members of the Council voting for and 11 against it.

Earlier today the Central Provincial Council also?voted against the Development (Special Provisions) draft Bill.

The Bill was defeated 32-0 votes with the United National Party members of the Council abstaining from voting.

This week the Southern Provincial Council and the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council also defeated the Development (Special Provisions) draft Bill.

Last week the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) and the North Central Provincial (NCP) Council also opposed the Development (Special Provisions) draft Bill. (Colombo Gazette)

Cardinal appears before PCOI probing Easter attacks

Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcom Ranjith, appeared before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the Easter Sunday attacks today. The Commission recorded a statement from the Archbishop on the deadly attacks in which three churches and three hotels were targetted. Sixty Police officers transferred

Some 60 Police officers have been transferred with immedite effect. The Police said that among those transferred are 04 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG). The transfer has been approved by the National Police Commission. (Colombo Gazette)
