Government scraps National day of mourning for Ratnasiri

The Government has decided to scrap the National day of mourning which was earlier declared for late Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremenayake.

Saturday December 31 was initially declared as a day of mourning as a mark of respect for the funeral of former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake but later it was changed to Friday.

However now the Home Affairs Ministry says the National day of mourning has been scrapped on a request made by the family of the late Prime Minister.

President Maithripala Sirisena has given instructions to conduct the funeral of the former Prime Minister with full state patronage. (Colombo Gazette)
