Release of delimitation committee report further delayed

The release of the report by the delimitation committee reviewing the demarcation of electoral boundaries in local government wards, has been further delayed.

The Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils said the release of the report has been delayed owing to some administrative issues.

He said the report was to be released today by the chairman of the committee Asoka Peiris.

However the delimitation committee has said there will be a delay in releasing the report as some administrative work is yet to be completed.

The much-awaited report was scheduled to be handed over on the 15th of December but it was delayed as the report had to be translated to English and Tamil.

The Ministry of Local Government appointed the five-member committee on 1st December 2015 to look into discrepancies regarding demarcation of boundaries and shortcomings of the report submitted by the National Delimitation Commission (NDC).

It was entrusted to carryout demarcation activities after reviewing the appeals made with regards to the demarcation of 206 out of 336 local government areas.

Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya had said earlier the Local Government elections can be held within two months after the receipt of the Delimitation Committee report. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Its nothing new with this TYPE OF THAMBI MINISTERS WO ALWAYS TRIES TO FOOL THE PUBLIC!!!
ALL MUSLIMS MUST BE ASHAMEDFUL FOR HAVING A MUSLIM MINISTER OF THIS TYPE WHO IS HIGHLY CORRUPTED!!!
Dear Muslim Frirends,PL RAISE YR VOICES AGAINST THIS HORA POOSA WHO TRIES TO DELAY THE ELECTIONS WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE HISTORY OF SRI LANKAN POLITICS!!!

  2. Mr. Asoka Peiris.promised us the report by 15 August. Since then the Minister has given him unsolicited extensions (saying he does not want the committee over-working to the extent of spoling their health). Mr. Peiris suffered two deaths in his immediate family but they do not explain the numerous new dates he has given us. I expect a senior SLAS officer like Mr. Peiris to keep his word without stalling like this repeatedly.

This is work that should be done by the independent Delimitation Commission and not by the Delimitation Committee appointed by a partisam minister.
