Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili said religious events were held islandwide including in the coastal areas to commemorate the tsunami disaster.

Following the 2004 tsunami, Sri Lanka has set up a mechanism to record the effect of a tsunami within five minutes of its occurrence and the Disaster Management Ministry has established systematic procedures to evacuate the people to safety from danger within one hour. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Our Govt. or ruling alliance has not learn any lesson from 2004 Tsunami disasters, the lost of life 35,000 people and missing 5000 people has no responsibility or accountability by Parties in power.

What I mean Tsunami is not that man made disaster ,but result of that millions of people are still victims of problems been not that addressed by any Govt. since 2004 December.

Look at Mount Lavinia Beach, which many of Hotels are running at beach land without any safety rules.

Most of Govt. authorities are blind on this critical issues by current UNP alliances led by Ranil W…has no say on major risk of life of the people living surround the Island.

They(UNP) deliberately ignored such risk issues . That is not “good governances” !
