Two arrested over death of four people after Wadduwa party

Two people were arrested today over the death of four people after a party in Wadduwa last weekend. Among those arrested was the publicity officer of the organisers of the party. Four people had been admitted to hospital after attending the party at a hotel?in?Wadduwa over the weekend. Two people died and another two were in hospital. A third person later died while the fourth person also later died. (Colombo Gazette)

Special trains deployed from Fort during train strike

Special trains were deployed from Fort today to transport passengers during the train strike. The Government said that special office trains were deployed to transport passengers returning home after work. Additional Government buses were also deployed today to transport passengers affected by the strike. Railway trade unions said that they will continue with the strike until their demands are met. The railway trade unions are demanding a salary increase but the Government says it is unable

Samurdhi officers staged a protest near Parliament blocking traffic along Parliament road today. Parliament road was temporarily closed between the Diyatha Uyana Junction and Polduwa as a result of the protest.
