All five suspects in Nadaraja Raviraj murder acquitted

All five suspects accused in the murder of former Tamil National Alliance Jaffna district Parliamentarian Nadaraja Raviraj were acquitted and released by the Colombo High Court last night.

Among those freed were Navy intelligence officers and the unanimous decision was reached by the jury after a one month long trial.

 

Raviraj was shot dead near his residence at Manning Town in Narahenpita in November 2006 when he was driving his vehicle along Matha Road. The CID recovered vehicle and a weapon alleged to have been used in the killing.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Rohantha Abeysooriya with Senior State Counsel Suharshi Herath appeared for the Attorney General. Senior Counsel Anuja Premaratne with Rasika Balasuriya, Yuran Liyanage appeared for the accused, while Counsel K.V. Thavarasa appeared for the aggrieved party. Counsel Darshana Ranmuthuge appeared for the State Witness.

  1. No wonder Tamils opposed any war crimes inquiry without the participation of foreign judges. The verdict will again be similar as we saw in Raviraj’s murder.

  2. The bias attitude of white juries in America favouring white murderers against black Men is creating a big divide in US. We have reached this stage many years ago.

The president manytimes said that he will never let down the soldiers.Yes,all accept that the soldiers who fought against the terrorists should not be let down but those who killed,rapped,tortured robbed are to be punished severely.During the war on the name of killing the terrorists,the soldiers killed many innocent victims,because of their inborn caracter. The president must come forward to tell the public that those who carried out the crime will be punished “.NOTHING IS TO BE PREFERRED BEFORE JUSTICE, SOCRATES”
