US refuses to postpone vote

US Ambassador to Geneva Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe, rejected a call from Cuba to postpone the vote on the resolution on Sri Lanka when it was presented to the UN Human Rights Council a short while ago. Concerns over hate campaign

Concerns have been raised over a hate campaign launched by the state media against some journalists in the private media as well as human rights workers and NGOs in the country. State owned ITN has, for the past few days, been profiling some journalists and human rights activists saying they are working against the country. D-Day for Sri Lanka today

Sri Lanka will brace itself for the vote on the U.S sponsored resolution at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) today. The vote is to be taken this morning Geneva time but may get put off for tomorrow if countries want more time to lobby support for or against the resolution. The vote is under item 4 of the Agenda and if adopted it would most likely see Sri Lanka being given a deadline to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and report back
