President Maithripala Sirisena began an official visit to Malaysia today. The President was welcomed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysian Human Resource Development Minister Dato Sri Richard Riot Anak Jaem and senior officials.
The visit is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak.
The visit will be President Maithripala Sirisena’s inaugural visit to Malaysia since assuming the post in January 2015.
The Official Welcoming Ceremony will be held tomorrow at Perdana Square, Putrajaya.
During the visit, YAB Prime Minister and the President will hold a bilateral meeting that will provide opportunities for both sides to review existing relations and cooperation as well as identify potential areas for future collaboration.
Five Memoranda of Understanding would be concluded between the two countries covering the areas of tourism, youth development, culture, arts and heritage, foreign workers as well as scientific and technical cooperation.
Malaysia and Sri Lanka enjoy warm and wide-ranging substantive relations in trade and investment, education, tourism and culture, human resources, capacity building, youth, and sports which have brought about mutual benefit to both countries.
This visit will provide new impetus to the bilateral cooperation that will cement and elevate relations between Malaysia and Sri Lanka to greater heights. (Colombo Gazette)
