Construction on world’s largest Christmas tree resumes

Construction work on the world’s largest Christmas tree at Galle Face resumed today after being suspended last week.

Work on the tree came to an abrupt end last week following objections raised by the Christian and catholic community.

Millions of rupees had already been spent on the project when it was suspended.

However the Government says it has resumed work on the tree following talks with the Catholic church.

The Government says the tree is being constructed with private funds and not Government funds. (Colombo Gazette)
