Navy removes protesters at Hambantota port

The Navy today removed employees of the Hambantota port who had been protesting against the agreement signed between a Chinese company and the Government.

A tense situation arose when the Navy attempted to remove the protesters who were blocking operations at the port.

Ships were prevented from entering and leaving the port by the protesters.

As a result the Navy was deployed today to remove the protesters. The Government on Thursday signed an agreement with a Chinese company in an attempt to recover losses suffered by the port.
