Budget 2017 passed with a majority of 110 votes

The 2017 budget was passed by Parliament today with a majority of 110 votes. When the vote on the budget was taken by name, 165 members voted for it and 55 against while 4 members were absent.

The Tamil National Alliance voted for the budget while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the joint opposition voted against it.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was absent during the vote.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake presented the budget on November 10 and the second reading was passed by Parliament with a majority of 107 votes last month.

The vote on the third and final reading was taken today. (Colombo Gazette)
