UNP backs devolution of powers within a united Sri Lanka

The United National Party (UNP) today called for maximum devolution of powers within a united Sri Lanka.

A statement by the UNP said that powers must be devolved to the provinces with the consent of all people.

The position of the UNP was taken by the UNP working committee which met today.

The UNP also resolved to continue to work?for the protection of human rights and ensure democracy.

The UNP working committee also decided?that the UNP will continue to work with the cohabitation government and also work with all parties to draft a new Constitution. (Colombo Gazette)
