Minister defends move to suspend recruitment of jail guards

The?Minister of Prison Reforms, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M. Swaminathan today defended the decision to suspend the recruitment of 350 jail guards.

Swaminathan told Parliament today the?recruitment was suspended as there were allegations of?corruption and bribery involved in the recruitment process.

The appointment of 350 jail guards had been suspended following complaints made to the Minister regarding corruption and bribery charges.

Many persons including members of parliament had complained to the Minister in this regard.

In this backdrop, Minister Swaminathan has issued instructions to carry out a proper investigation into the bribery allegations and to take action against such officials if they are found guilty.?(Colombo Gazette)
