Thirty Navy personnel at Welisara base contract virus

Thirty Navy personnel attached to the Sri Lanka Navy base in Welisara have contracted the coronavirus. Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the camp has now been declared an isolation area. He said that tests conducted on Navy personnel who had come in contact with a coronavirus infected sailor had confirmed that 30 of them were infected. Curfew imposed and lifted after few hours in parts of Ampara

A curfew was imposed and lifted after a few hours in parts of Ampara today. The curfew was imposed in the Uhana and Damana areas in Ampara today. Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the two areas were placed under a temporary curfew and movements to the areas had been restricted. PCR testing increased to 1000 a day

The Ministry of Health has decided to increase the number of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing in the country to over 1000 a day from the current 800. According to the Ministry of Health, private hospitals have been invited to carry out the testing together with Government hospitals. The testing will help detect coronavirus patients in the country.
