Gunaratnam released from prison after completing jail term

Politburo member of the Frontline Socialist Party, Kumar Gunaratnam, was released today after completing his jail term.

The Government had said yesterday Gunaratnam will not be deported once he is set free.

Internal Affairs and Cultural Affairs Minister S.B. Navinna told Parliament that?Kumar Gunaratnam can apply for Sri Lankan citizenship once he is set free.

Opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena asked the Minister in Parliament if there is a move to deport Gunaratnam when his jail term ends.

Navinna said there was no move to deport?Gunaratnam and since his family is in Sri Lanka he can apply for citizenship.

Gunaratnam, who is an Australian citizen, was imprisoned for violation of immigration laws. (Colombo Gazette)

US says Sri Lanka expected to get more vaccines through COVAX by June
