Kumar Gunaratnam will not be deported once freed

Politburo member of the Frontline Socialist Party, Kumar Gunaratnam, will not be deported once he is set free, the Government announced today.

Internal Affairs and Cultural Affairs Minister S.B. Navinna told Parliament that?Kumar Gunaratnam can apply for Sri Lankan citizenship once he is set free.

Opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena asked the Minister in Parliament if there is a move to deport Gunaratnam when his jail term ends.

Navinna said there was no move to deport?Gunaratnam and since his family is in Sri Lanka he can apply for citizenship.

Gunaratnam, who is an Australian citizen, was imprisoned for violation of immigration laws. (Colombo Gazette)

Number of people infected in Fort, Slave Island, Mount Lavinia

A number of people have been found to be infected in Fort, Slave Island and Mount Lavinia. They were among individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus over a 24-hour period ending at 6am today (Thursday).
