Cambodian Prime Minister cancels visit to Sri Lanka

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has canceled a visit to Sri Lanka scheduled for this year, the Cambodian media reported.

According to, Hun Sen canceled tentative plans to visit Pakistan and three other countries – Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand – and instructed the Pakistani embassy to work with the Foreign Ministry to mark next year’s 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Sry Thamrong, a minister attached to the Prime Minister’s office, told reporters of the change of plans after talks between Hun Sen and Mian Raza Rabbani, chairman of Pakistan’s Senate, yesterday in Siem Reap City.

Hun Sen has told Rabbani that he had some important work to complete in the country, explaining why he decided to cancel official visits overseas.

“Samdech [Hun Sen] apologized because this year Samdech has a lot of work in the country so he canceled official visits to many countries including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand,” Thamrong said.

“Next year, we will be busy organizing commune elections and the national election in 2018.” (Colombo Gazette)
