The Government says it has been proposed to establish an independent commission to regulate the contents of news published in print media, broadcasting media (radio and television), and registered websites.
According to the Government, the move is aimed at promoting professionalism and ethics securing the free, independent and plurality media culture.
A proposal made by Gayantha Karunathilaka, Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, to obtain public opinion formally in this regard, has been approved by the cabinet of Ministers.
