Motor traffic fines increased to curb accidents

The Transport Ministry said that the minimum fine for driving without a licence, drunk driving and four other offences has been increased to Rs. 25,000 each.

Meanwhile the Government informed Parliament that motor traffic fines had to be increased.

Justice Minister Wijeydasa Rajapaksha said that the fines will be increased to reduce the number of road accidents.

He said that the increase in fines is not part of the 2017 budget but will be introduced through amendment to existing motor traffic laws. (Colombo Gazette)

Overseas travel ban on Diana lifted for five days
