JSC urged to ensure accused MPs can travel overseas

WijedasaRajapakseThe Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has been urged to ensure Parliamentarians facing accusations in court are allowed to travel overseas.

Justice Minister Wijeydasa Rajapaksha told Parliament today that there have been instances where the passports of Parliamentarians are impounded.

He said that the Government has requested the JSC headed by the Chief Justice to instruct judges to allow Parliamentarians to travel overseas if they are out on bail in a case.

The Minister insisted that the Government cannot give orders to the JSC and so only a request has been made. (Colombo Gazette)
