Former Archbishop of Colombo passed away

Former Archbishop of Colombo, His Lordship Nicholas Marcus Fernando passed away today. He was 87 years old at the time of his demise. His Lordship, who was born in December 1932, was appointed as the Priest of Colombo, Sri Lanka in December 1959. He was thereafter appointed as the Archbishop of Colombo in March 1977 and was later ordained as the Archbishop of Colombo in May 1977. His Lordship resigned as the Archbishop of Colombo in July 2002. (Colombo Gazette)

Special electrical, plumbing service extended to other districts

A special service to provide solutions for electrical systems and plumbing issues of households during the curfew period, which was already launched in the western province, has now been extended to other districts of Sri Lanka.? Maximum Retail Price imposed for rice

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has introduced a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for rice. The CAA said the MRP for a Kg of white or red raw rice has been set at Rs. 85. The MRP for a Kg of Samba and Nadu rice has been priced at Rs. 90 and the MRP for a Kg of Keeri samba has been set at Rs 125, it added. The Consumer Affairs Authority said the MRP for rice comes into effect from today. (Colombo Gazette)
