A group of refugees consisting of 41persons (13 families) are scheduled to arrive from Trichy on Thursday. V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs said that of the 41refugee returnees, 22 are males and 19 are females. These refugee returnees will get back to Mannar, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, and Jaffna.
The UNHCR provides free air tickets, reintegration allowance of US$ 75 per person, transport allowance US$ 19 per person and monitory non-food grant of US$ 75 per a family.
Since 2011, a total of 5225 refugees (1905 Families) have returned to Sri Lanka. Over 64,000 are stationed in 109 welfare camps in India.
The Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs initiated a livelihood assistance programme of a maximum Rs. 100,000 per a refugee returnee family to support their livelihood activities.
A provision of dry ration has also been approved for six months. Sivagnanasothy said that the refugees who lost their houses will be provided with houses under the housing programme of the Ministry. (Colombo Gazette)
