World’s tallest Christmas tree not with Ports Authority funds

Port and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga says the world’s tallest Christmas tree being constructed at Galle Face, is not being constructed with funds of the Ports Authority.

Opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa claimed in Parliament today that the?Ports Authority was spending state funds to construct the tree.

Ranatunga however denied the claim and said that the tree was being constructed with funds from a private company.

Weerawansa however said that Ports Authority staff were involved in the construction work and were getting paid from the?Ports Authority.

Ranatunga said the Government of good governance respects all religions and will support the activities of any religion.?(Colombo Gazette)

China donates Rs. 1 million and books to the Jaffna Library

China has donated?Rs.1 million to the Jaffna?Library as part of Chinese assistance to the North. The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang donated Rs.1 million and a batch of books about China to the Chief Librarian Mrs. Suganthi, which will support development of the Library, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said.

Moody’s changes outlook on Sri Lanka’s rating to negative from stable
