Government insists unruly elements behind protest

The Government today insisted that some unruly elements were behind the protest by a group of disabled soldiers near the Presidential Secretariat this week.

Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka told Parliament today?that some of those taking part in the protest had attempted to force their way into the Presidential Secretariat after talks were held and a solution was assured to the protesters.

The disabled soldiers protested near the Presidential Secretariat demanding pension and the police used tear gas and water cannons when the protesters attempted to enter the Presidential Secretariat.

Ratnayaka said the?Presidential Secretariat is a high security zone and the police used minimum force to disperse the protesters.

He said that separate investigations have been launched into the incident and action will be taken against anyone who violated the law. (Colombo Gazette)
