US to fund human rights promotion in Sri Lanka

The US State Department has announced funding for organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects that promote democracy, human rights, and rule of law in Sri Lanka. Five shot at wedding party

Five people were injured after being shot at during a wedding party in Buttala late last night, the police said. The shooting took place following a heated argument between two groups at the wedding party in Okampitiya, Buttala. Following the heated exchange of words one man had left the area and then returned with a weapon. He opened fire at one group of people resulting in five of them being injured and rushed to hospital.
