New legislation to monitor private and international schools

The Government is to introduce new legislation to monitor private and international schools in the country.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that the new legislation was required to ensure quality education at private schools.

Last year the Government had taken a policy decision that international and private schools functioning in Sri Lanka facilitating general education (between 5-18 years of age) following local and foreign curricula should be monitored by the Ministry of Education.

Speaking in Parliament while presenting the 2017 budget today, the Finance Minister said that the?Ministry of Policy Planning and Economics Affairs will monitor the operations of private schools under the proposed new legislation. (Colombo Gazette)
