Private land to be purchased to resettle war displaced

idp campThe Government has decided to purchase private land in the Jaffna District to resettle war displaced families.

There are 971 families still in welfare camps in the Jaffna District and 682 of those families are landless families.

Steps have been taken to resettle 462 of those families in alternative lands and lands are to be identified to resettle 220 families.

As there are less state lands in Jaffna it has been proposed to purchase private land of 20 perches for each family.

A proposal made by D.M. Swaminathan, Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, to allocate Rs. 88 million to purchase lands through the Jaffna District Secretary, has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. minister mr swminathan going and coming from and to Jaffna but nothing has happened, 971 families are with out home, they are in camps but minister in a palace, president and prime minister are cheating the tamils ,USA president will give north and east for federal government ,he watching mr Rajapaska cunning game.

  2. I lost my Land in West side of Palali camp. Our total land size that was forcibly consumed in the pre text of HSZ is 400 Perches including a demolished house worth 10 Million. And I don’t live in the camp and so do other over 10,000 IDPs….This Tamil minister/ TNA/ NCP are BIG JOKE. Government always consistent in terms of its behaviour towards TAMILS and its always been ANTI. I anticipate post Piraba era to be more unstable.

  3. If the military returns private lands occupied by it illegally, there would be no need to purchase private land.
The 682 families should be allowed to go back to their own lands.
