Court of Appeal orders release of Tiran Alles

The?Court of Appeal today ordered the release of former Parliamentarian Tiran Alles and suspended the remand order issued on him by the Colombo High Court.

Alles and two others were?earlier remanded till November 10 by the Colombo High Court over a Rs.200 million fraud that had allegedly taken place at the Reconstruction and Development Agency (RADA) in 2006.

The Attorney General (AG) had earlier filed indictments in the High Court against Alles, former North and Eastern Provinces LTTE Financial Head Emil Kanthan, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of RADA Saliya Wickramasuriya and Dr. Jayantha Dias Samarasinghe.

The AG had stated that the four suspects could be charged for misappropriation of public funds under the Public Property Act. (Colombo Gazette)

ISIS leader al-Baghdadi believed to have been killed in US military raid

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is believed to have been killed in a raid conducted by the US military in northwest Syria on Saturday, according to a senior US defense official and a source with knowledge.
