Students of the Jaffna University suspended their protests after having a discussion with the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M Swaminathan today.
The Minister went to Jaffna this morning to hold a discussion with the student unions and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna regarding the deaths of the two Jaffna University students.
Having full confidence in the assurances given by Minister Swaminathan, the students have decided to suspend their protests.
The students engaged in several protests throughout last week and they staged another protest this morning as well, demanding action against the recent shooting incident which killed two students in Jaffna.
Minister Swaminathan also noted that the students have been given the opportunity to meet His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena, in Colombo at 12.30 pm tomorrow. (Colombo Gazette)
