Prison officials told they must maintain discipline

4t2a2736Prison officials were today told they must be disciplined first in order to maintain discipline among the prison inmates.

The 11th passing out ceremony of grade II jailors and rehabilitation officers was held today (30/10/2016) under the patronage of Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M Swaminathan .

The passing out ceremony which was held at Prisons Grounds, in Borella was attended by Secretary to the Ministry V. Sivagnanasothy and Prisons Commissioner General Nishan Dhanasinghe.

Addressing the gathering Minister Swaminathan stressed that the prison officials should be disciplined first in order to maintain discipline among the prison inmates.

The Minister pointed out that while the facilities provided for the inmates should be improved, the jailors should also be strict in their approach to minimise incidents of prisoners escaping jails and narcotics smuggling. He noted that otherwise the purpose of the prisons system is defeated.

116 grade II male jailors, four female officers and 12 rehabilitation officers passed out at today’s ceremony completing their training period. (Colombo Gazette)
