Monks threaten to form group to counter Aava gang

A group of monks today warned that they are prepared to?form a new group to counter the??Aava? sword gang in the North.

The General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, the Venerable Ittekande Saddhatissa Thero, said that if the members of the??Aava? sword gang in the North are not arrested the monks will form a group to counter the??Aava? sword gang.

The Police have already launched an operation to look for members of the ?Aava? sword gang in the North, Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake told Parliament this week.

He said that the shooting incident in Jaffna recently, where two Jaffna university students were killed, involved police officers who were looking for??Aava? sword gang members.

He also said that a comprehensive investigation was launched into the death of the two youth and that forensic expertise had been sought. (Colombo Gazette)

India sending six train sets consisting 78 coaches to Sri Lanka

Indian railways is exporting six DEMU train sets manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai to Sri Lanka, India’s Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said. In DEMU (diesel?electric multiple unit), a diesel engine drives an electric generator which produces electrical energy, the Press Trust of India reported.
