The Police have launched an operation to look for members of the ‘Aava’ sword gang in the North, Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake told Parliament today.
He said that the shooting incident in Jaffna recently, where two Jaffna university students were killed, involved police officers who were looking for ‘Aava’ sword gang members.
He also said that a comprehensive investigation was launched into the death of the two youth and that forensic expertise had been sought.
The Minister also said that the attack on two police intelligence officers in Jaffna recently was not a direct attack on the officers.
Ratnayake said the officers were attacked when they attempted to stop a robbery in a shop in the area. (Colombo Gazette)
