Parliament committee wants action taken against Arjun

A Parliament committee has proposed that action be taken against?businessman Arjun Aloysius and Perpetual Treasuries over the alleged treasury bond scam.

The report by the?Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) headed by?Sunil Handunneththi has proposed that an investigation be conducted into Perpetual Treasuries Limited and how it received undue advantage as a primary dealer from the Central Bank, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera has said.

Perpetual Treasuries recorded a profit of Rs. 5.1 billion for the year ending March 2016, an increase of 430% in profits in comparison to the previous year. (Colombo Gazette)

Navy seizes cannabis worth Rs. 97 million

The navy has apprehended two suspects with 485kg of Kerala Cannabis in the Northern seas early this morning. The suspects were arrested during a joint operation conducted by the Navy and Coast Guard. The seized stock of Kerala Cannabis has been valued at Rs. 97 million. The Navy says it has seized over 1900kg of cannabis during operations conducted in the last 75 days. (Colombo Gazette)

Eighth coronavirus patient detected in Sri Lanka

The eighth Sri Lankan to contract the coronavirus has been identified from the Kandakadu quarantine centre. The Director- General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the 42 year- old male who had returned from Italy is currently receiving treatment at the Polonnaruwa District Hospital. Earlier today, the Ministry of Health announced two others were detected with the coronavirus in Sri Lanka.
