Sri Lanka cricket board refuses to back charity walk

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-8-41-16-pmThe Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has refused to formally support a charity walk in which former top cricketers Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene are participating.

The organisers of the Trail walk had sought the support of SLC for the latter stages of the walk but the request has been turned down.

It is understood that the reason for the refusal is a rift between the SLC top management and Jayawardene.

Trail 2016 is covering a distance of 670km over 28 consecutive days from October 6th to November 2nd 2016. Walkers can commit to walk the whole distance, part of the way or become a virtual walker depending on their ability. Walkers began their journey at Point Pedro and are walking to Dondra Head in order to raise funds towards a new cancer unit for the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

While SLC has refused to formally support the charity walk, several cricketers have extended support to the walk in their individual capacities. (Colombo Gazette)
