Cops arrested over deaths of two Jaffna Uni students

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has commenced an investigation into the deaths of two Jaffna University students, who were travelling on a motorcycle in Kankasanturai.

The Post Mortem into these deaths are now being held, and five Police officers have been arrested over the incident and were immediately interdicted, the Government Information department said.

The Government says necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the law is fully?implemented in this regard. (Colombo Gazette)

Major tax concessions announced by new cabinet

The new cabinet today announced major tax concessions, including the reduction of the VAT tax and the cancellation of the NBT tax, Debit tax, PAYE tax and withholding tax on interest. Chamal Rajapaksa appointed State Minister of Defence

Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa was appointed as the State Minister of Defence today. He took oaths before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.
