Body of former army intelligence officer exhumed

ovtlcwdThe body of the former army intelligence officer found dead in Kegalle with a letter saying he killed journalist Lasantha Wickrematunga, was exhumed for investigations.

The former intelligence officer was found hanging by the neck in his house last week.

Edirisinghe Jayamanne, the former intelligence officer had appealed to the authorities in his letter, to release the army intelligence officer now in remand custody.

Jayamanne claims in the letter it was he who killed Wickrematunga and not army intelligence officer P. Udalagama, who is in remand custody.

Lasantha Wickrematunge, the Chief Editor of the popular English weekly The Sunday Leader, was assassinated on 8 January 2009 by four assailants who stopped him on his way to his office on Attidiya-Mt. Lavinia road. (Colombo Gazette)
