Island-wide power-cut from today except in Colombo

power cutThe Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced a power-cut from today as a result of the breakdown of the Norochcholai coal power plant.

According to the CEB the power-cut will be imposed island-wide, but not in Colombo.

The electricity will be cut for one hourĀ from between 8am and 6pm and for 30 minutesĀ from 6pm to 10pm.

However the Power and Energy Ministry said that electricity will not be cut in hospitals around the country. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Some will blame government for everything. They don not want a coal power plant in the East. They do not want Noraichcholai. How can Government give power when NGO’s, parties interested in selling transformers, Power Generators protest for everything. Get the power from Sun and Moon.

    • How many people advised against building a coal power plant in norochcholai? Not NGOs and politicians, but engineers who actually know what they’re talking about? And what was the response? That it was all “conspiracies”, and something something LTTE.

      Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. If you’re the elected government, you have to take responsibility for the stupid decisions you made for political reasons. If you can’t, then don’t run for public office.
