Jaffna Army briefs UN Rapporteur on security related issues

img_1119The Army in Jaffna says it briefed the visiting United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye on security related issues.

Izsak-Ndiaye and two other delegates during their visit to the Northern Province, had a cordial meeting with the Commander of the Security Force in Jaffna Major General Mahesh Senanayaka at Security Forces Headquarters in Palaly.

The Commander extended warm welcome to the visiting diplomats and explained the present situation of the Jaffna Peninsula.

During the meeting the Commander the diplomats on security related issue as well prevention of smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc.

The Commander also briefed the UN official on the reconciliation mechanisms which the security forces are involved in to uplift the livelihood of the people in Jaffna.

After a cordial dialogue, the Commander presented mementoes to the delegation as a token of friendship.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye placed her signature on the visitors’ book to mark her memorable visit before leaving. (Colombo Gazette)


  1. The “Jaffna” army is clearly prejudiced against Tamils. Jaffna has a 95% Tamil population but they still find a Sinhala leader to dominate them who doesn’t even speak the language. It is ridiculous. The UN must step in.

  2. This is a great opportunity to interact UN officials with regarded to minority matters. Then they will understand reale pictture of the issues and what arw the support given by military personnel being the Jaffna
