Beira rehabilitation, development project gets approval

The?Beira Lake rehabilitation and development project has obtained cabinet approval, the Government announced today.

The Beira Lake which is situated on a land of about 120 hectares is helpful in storm water drainage, recreational activities and biodiversity.

Illegal disposal of solid waste and drainage from the surrounding areas have polluted the?water source.

Moreover irregular development activities have obstructed the access ways to the Beira Lake from some places.

A proposal made by Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to implement the Beira Lake rehabilitation and development project at an estimated cost of Rs. 12,550 million was approved by the cabinet. (Colombo Gazette)

Ten people drown in Thelgamu Oya in Matale

Sri Lanka, China open Industrial Zone Office in Hambantota

Sri Lanka and China jointly launched the “Sri Lanka-China Logistics and Industrial Zone Office” in Sri Lanka’s southern port of Hambantota on Saturday, the Xinhua news agency reported.
