President tells politicians to put country and public first

Maithripala SirisenaPresident Maithripala Sirisena today urged all politicians to put the country and its people first.

Speaking in Hambantota, the President said that politicians must ensure their responsibilities are met towards the people.

He said that some politicians discuss big plans but fail to even see if the ordinary people have water to drink.

“We at times discuss big topics. We discuss major development plans but we fail to address issues right before us,” he said.

The President also noted that the cohabitation Government is facing accusations as it moves forward.

He said the main target of the cohabitation Government is to address some core issues which affect the country locally and internationally.

The President also denied claims that the Government is trying to betray the country to India and the United States.

He said that he has been given a responsibility by the people and he will ensure that expectation is met. (Colombo Gazette)
